Prestwich man dumped bin bags infested with maggots

Dan Milhail Motatu, of Downham Crescent, Prestwich, was caught on CCTV in July last year dumping the foul-smelling rubbish on Cambridge Street in Salford.

The 34-year-old was invited to three interviews but failed to attend or cooperate with an investigation, and was prosecuted by Salford City Council.

He pleaded guilty at Manchester Magistrates' Court on July 26 and was slapped with a £533 fine.

He was also ordered to pay £1,250 in costs and a £221 victim surcharge.

Salford City Council has also prosecuted a second man for fly-tipping at the same location on Cambridge Street.

Abdou Salam Bocoum, of Thornbank North, Bolton, was caught on camera dumping cardboard, plastic trays and other waste in March 2023.

The 34-year-old attended an interview with a council officer and admitted the offence, but chose not to pay the fixed penalty notice.

He was prosecuted at Manchester Magistrates' Court last week with a £384 fine and ordered to pay £950 in costs and a £154 victim surcharge.

Cllr Barbara Bentham, lead member for environment, neighbourhoods and community safety at Salford City Council, said “It’s absolutely disgraceful that these environmental criminals think they can drive to our city to dump their rubbish.

“These prosecutions send a strong message that this will not be tolerated in Salford.

"We will use our vast network of CCTV cameras to catch people in the act and bring them to justice.”
