Students from Tottington High School are helping rejuvenate a vandalised woodland area.
Youngsters have teamed up with The Sunnywood Project, a non-profit group that combines arts, nature education, and outdoor events, to restore the damaged Kirkless Valley's woodland.
The space suffered extensive damage in 2021 when vandals destroyed bird boxes and ripped up plants.
Damian Griffith, assistant headteacher at Tottington High School, said: "Our students have shown remarkable dedication and enthusiasm in their work on The Woodland Project.
"Their commitment to improving our local environment reflects our school's values of inclusivity, striving for greatness, and reaching our goals.
"We are incredibly proud of how they are contributing to our community and embodying the spirit of Tottington High School."
Cllr John Southworth, deputy cabinet member for children and young people, said: "I was delighted to visit Tottington High School to meet the pupils who have already made an effective contribution to the project in the Kirklees Valley, and also to hear from the school leaders about their plans for increasing the school's involvement with community initiatives, such as maintenance of the War Memorial and garden."
By getting their hands dirty, students are getting valuable skills and fostering a sense of responsibility towards their local area.
Aligning perfectly with the school's vision of inspiring high aspirations and future success.
