A man who was discovered in Heywood town centre with "serious" and "life-threatening injuries" may have been attacked or assaulted.

At around 5.50pm on Thursday (July 11), emergency services were called to reports that a man had suffered serious injuries in the Gale Street area.

The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries which officers believe could mean the man was possibly attacked or assaulted.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information as they work to ascertain what was the cause of the man's injuries.

Anyone with CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the areas around the Bury New Road junctions of High Street, Regent Street and Rose Hill between 4.45pm and 5.35pm are asked to contact police.

Detective Sergeant Timothy O’Callaghan, from GMP’s Rochdale district, said: “We are working to piece together the exact timeline of what led to this man suffering serious injuries.

"Our initial enquiries cannot rule out a potential assault or attack, which is why we are asking for people to contact us.

“We would appreciate anyone who has any relevant footage or information getting in touch – it could greatly benefit our ongoing work.

“You can contact police via 101 or gmp.police.uk, quoting log 2908 of 11/07/24. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
