Comic Con will be back in Bury this weekend for its third year with a host of family fun on offer once again.

The free event will take place throughout the town centre on Sunday, June 30 with numerous activities and attractions on show.

Organisers Bury Business improvement District (BID) have arranged a day full of fun and excitement for all at the free event in Bury.

There will be four themed zones, including a "Doctor Who Zone" at The Fusilier Museum which will allow visitors to "step into a nostalgic journey through time and space".

They will be able to meet special guests including Doctor Who’s Sylvester McCoy and Clem So (Doctor Who and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).

Clive Mantle (Game of Thrones, Casualty, Robin of Sherwood) will also be present at the Doctor Who attraction and fans will be able to "discover iconic props and memorabilia from the beloved series".

Over at Bury Art Museum, a "comic book creators zone" will be in place.

Attendees will be able to meet legendary artists such as Nigel Parkinson (Beano) and Neil Roche.

They will be able to browse unique artwork, pick up a comic book from the creator, chat about all things comic book art and learn from the pros.

In Kay Gardens, there will be a "Jurassic zone" where visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the world of dinosaurs with life-sized replicas, a dinosaur egg hatchery, meet the dinosaur rangers and the fossil expert Doctor Bones and watch out for the "crazy cavemen".

The Met theatre will also be joining in with the action with a "creator zone". People will be able to show off their creativity in a cosplay competition with categories for children at 1pm and teenagers and adults at 3pm and a host of great prizes on offer. 

Two Crows Studio will also be hosting a Comic Con pen, paper and pose event, which will be free to attend but tickets must be booked in advance from The Met’s website.

In addition to the themed zones, visitors can look forward to interactive experiences, photo opportunities with iconic movie vehicles, and special giveaways.

The new HMV store is celebrating its opening with a special offer which involves buying any item from HMV’s pop culture range and the first 50 purchases could win a copy of Jumanji: The Next Level on 4K Blu-ray. This offer is only available on Sunday.

And the Mill Gate Shopping Centre will be at the heart of the event too.

The centre will be hosting the film FX department from the University of Bolton who will be setting up their movie makeup, demonstrating iyd impressive work, and giving tips and tricks to anyone dreaming of taking their cosplay to the next level.

And cosplay lovers are invited to attend a costume competition with categories for all ages, at 1pm, fantastic prizes are up for grabs for the most impressive ensembles.

“We’re very excited to once again be taking a leading role in this year’s event and looking forward to seeing the amazing work being done by the University of Bolton’s Centre for FX Film Department," said Angela Tierney, the Mill Gate's centre manager.

“Comic Con provides a great atmosphere across the town centre and it’s quite an occasion to welcome aliens, robots, monsters and superheroes to Mill Gate!”
