A mass brawl involving around 30 people broke out and a car jacking took place as violence erupted in an area of Bury on Friday.

Police were called to Brierley Street, near Holy Cross College, at around 12.15pm following reports of a large fight and officers were also told about a car jacking in the same area.

Two people were said to have been dragged out a car before someone took control of the vehicle and drove off.

The victims were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The group involved in the fight dispersed as officers arrived and no arrests have been made.

On Friday, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We were initially called to reports of approximately 30 people fighting on the corner of Richmond Street and Brierley Street, Bury, shortly after 12.15pm today (Friday).

"The group dispersed immediately as officers attended, however a car-jacking had also taken place in the same area.

"Two people reported being dragged out of their vehicle and assaulted, with an individual then driving off in their car.

"The victims have been taken to hospital with minor injuries, not thought to be life-threatening or changing.

"A scene is in place while we conduct enquiries, and the vehicle has since been recovered.

"No arrests have been made as yet, but the investigation is ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact us on 101 quoting log 1285 of 14/06/24."

Police put a cordon up on Brierley Street and carried out door to door enquiries in the aftermath of the incident.

One woman who lives nearby said: "I got home about 10 minutes after.

"There was a police cordon across the street they have just taken down.

"I had two police officers at my door asking if my CCTV covers it but it doesn't."
