A tortoises and terrapins weigh-in event proved to be a success in Bury town centre once again, helping ensure dozens of the reptiles are in good health.
The events have been running for more than 35 years and are organised by John Thorpe, the Northern regional chairman of the British Chelonia Group.
The latest weight in took place on Saturday, May 25 at the United Reformed Church on Parsons Lane.
John said: “The weather was kind, and 37 animals and their owners turned out to take advantage of this twice-yearly event where all advice and information are absolutely free to anyone who needs them.”

John says tortoises and terrapins are often misunderstood and poorly treated as they require careful attention for their needs.
The British Chelonia Group is one of the principal organisations in the UK that assists owners, as well as funding conservation and research projects overseas.

John added: “I would like to thank both Vince Wager, Valley vets and of course the kind people at the church, who allowed us to use the premises for the day.
“Most of all our thanks go to the owners who make the effort to attend and make sure that their animals are in good health.
“We look forward to seeing everyone again later in the year.”
The next event will be held in autumn this year to provide more help and advice for owners.
