A Bury College engineering student has been left "inspired" after completing a placement at Salford Royal Hospital.

Aaisha Ismail is currently studying a T Level engineering course at the college and has just spent time at the hospital's orthotics department to gain valuable experience.

And she has been praised by Salford Royal staff and the wider team at Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Foundation Trust following her time there.

She said: “My experience shadowing the staff in the orthotics department at Salford Royal provided me with valuable insights into clinical engineering.

“I joined the clinicians in patient consultations which allowed me to witness first hand the application of orthotic devices to address various medical needs.

“Seeing the design of different orthoses highlighted the importance of balancing functionality and simplicity and observing the production of in-house insoles in the workshop further deepened my understanding of the design of these.

“I appreciate the team’s thorough explanations and guidance throughout my time there.

“The support truly enhanced my learning experience.

“Overall, my time at Salford Royal was incredibly informative and has inspired my interest in the field of clinical engineering.”

NCA practice education practitioner Michelle Jones added: "It was a pleasure having Aaisha spend some time within our department.

“She was professional, and friendly, mingled well with the team and was an overall lovely person. She was also inquisitive and asked appropriate questions."
