The first Funding our Future event hosted by Bury Hospice took place on Thursday, May 23, at The Wellbeing Farm in Edgworth.

The rustic farm which is nestled in lush green landscape, was the perfect setting to bring people together and discuss the importance of having a current will in place and to share details of how they can make a difference in the lives of local families by leaving a gift in their will to the hospice.

The intimate event was well attended by hospice supporters all wanting to hear about leaving a legacy of love.

A gift in will allows you to plan for your family’s future while supporting the future of the hospice by leaving behind a suggested one per cent donation to the hospice, which will support families facing life-limiting illness in the years to come.

Funding Our Future helped attendees understand the ways they can best prepare for the future, as speakers in healthcare, hospice income generation, wills and probate, shared their expertise.

Solicitor Fiona Bushell, of Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, provided great insights into the importance of leaving a will and setting up a power of attorney who would act on your behalf should you become unable to make decisions around your health and finances.

Jackie Halstead and Nellie Savory, members of the hospice’s clinical team spoke about the vast array of services offered by Bury Hospice.

This includes Will Month – the collaborative will making service (in partnership with participating local solicitors), that allows those making a will to do so for a donation to the hospice.

Guests were able to ask any questions, enjoy a spot of lunch, and to see the llamas roaming the farm.

They left the event knowing that a one per cent gift to the hospice, whether big or small, helps us provide vital care and support to patients.

Tracey Tierney, a volunteer at the hospice, said: “Without having a will in place, you tend to have a perception of what having one would be like.

“The event was informative because it covered a lot of bases, including how you can leave gifts to charities. There was no pressure and everything was really laid back.”

Gifts in wills are a fantastic way to ensure your legacy lives on, as well as ensure the future of the hospice. They're also a thoughtful way to support a cause close to your heart.

Your generosity, no matter the size, can help the hospice to continue providing compassionate care and support to those who need it most.
