The Bury areas where Andy Burnham is most popular and least popular were revealed in figures from the Greater Manchester mayoral elections.

The metro mayor won a third term in office with more than 420,000 votes, or 63.4 per cent of the vote, when the results were revealed on May 4.

Mr Burnham won in all but one council ward in the city-region – Werneth, Oldham – but figures from the Greater Manchester mayoral elections released last week show the share of the vote in each council ward.

In Bury they show he is most popular in St Mary's with 76 per cent of the vote and he is least popular in Tottington with 48 per cent of the vote.

The position of these council wards is no surprise as, in the council chamber, St Mary's has three Labour Party councillors including leader Eamonn O'Brien. In contrast Tottington has no Labour Party councillors.

On May 4, Mr Burnham told The Bury Times it is important to listen to where the share of the vote is lower.

He said: "I think the elections are about listening and sometimes messages need to be sent via the elections.

"There is a reason why people vote the way they vote so I go there to understand it and to work with people."

Here is Mr Burnham's share of the vote in each council ward:

St Mary's - 76 per cent
Besses - 74 per cent
Holyrood - 71 per cent
Ramsbottom - 67 per cent
Pilkington Park - 65 per cent
