It’s National Nurses Week (May 6 to 12) and at Bury Hospice, we want to use this time in particular to really shout about the fantastic team of nurses we have working at the hospice.

Our nurses are at the forefront of the amazing specialist patient care that we provide, both on the hospice site and in the community of Bury.

This care sees our nurses taking the time to identify exactly what a patient wants and needs, working with them and their family to do whatever they can to make it all happen in a holistic and individualised way.

It is our mission at the hospice to ensure that we continue developing our services to keep meeting the needs of people in Bury living with life-limiting illnesses.

Our caring hospice nurses are committed to ensuring everyone is treated with dignity, respect and compassion because excellent patient care is at the heart of everything we do.

Our nurses not only provide medical and clinical care, but also offer emotional and psychological care, which supports people through their difficult times in the way which helps them the most.

Rachel Gee, one of the inpatient unit team leaders at the hospice, said: “I have a special fondness for palliative care.

“One of my favourite parts of the day at Bury Hospice is when we get patients newly admitted to our inpatient unit, either from their own home or from hospital, that need our specialist input.

“It’s just really lovely to know that patients are in a place where we can meet their needs holistically.

"It’s very important that we treat them as individuals, and make them and their families feel comfortable and safe.”

Rachel is just one of the many fabulous nurses at the hospice who you can choose to support by making a monthly donation to assist the cost of providing specialist nursing care.

Sponsoring a nurse starts from a minimum donation of £10.00 a month, which will help nurses to continue providing this care, offering hope and support for patients and families, and helping them make the most of their time together.

£10 a month could pay for a bubble bath for a patient.

£15 a month could pay for a member of our outreach team to visit a patient in their own home.

£25 a month could help towards paying for a patient to be cared for by a specialist nurse in our Inpatient Unit.

Anyone who decides to support us by choosing to sponsor will receive a special Sponsor a Nurse pin badge as a thank you.
