One nearby resident said the pub had been out of use for about a month.
He said: "It was closed then a new owner took over.
"It then opened for two months before closing.
"Back in the day it was a good pub, it had darts teams."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed they were called after reports of an attempted burglary.
They added that the ground floor window was smashed and no arrests were made with enquiries ongoing.
