A main road in Summerseat is to be resurfaced after a petition was raised by a local councillor.

Waterside Road is one of the main roads leading into the village and has significantly deteriorated with potholes.

Local councillor Liam James Dean worked with residents to create the petition in July last year.

Cllr Dean said: “Summerseat village has gone through a lot in recent times and the least our community can ask for is a road that isn’t falling apart.

“I’m pleased residents are coming together and signing this petition, Bury Council have known about the state of this road for a while and residents want their voice heard – this is what we’re doing.”

However, Bury Council officers have confirmed that they will be adding Waterside Road to the Highway Investment Strategy programme to be resurfaced after the petition was handed in last November.

The date of the work hasn’t been confirmed yet, however, it is hoped to be completed in the coming year.

In response to this result, Cllr Dean said: “This is a fantastic result for local people and a great response to our community petition. Together we can improve our villages.”
