Top marks have been awarded to three borough pubs and a takeaway after the latest round of food hygiene inspections.

The Food Standards Agency’s website shows three pubs in Ramsbottom and a new Bury-based takeaway have been handed five-star hygiene scores after inspections.

On December 20 and 21 inspectors examined food handling, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and the management of food safety, giving an overall rating from zero to five.

New takeaway Dragon Sushi has had its first inspection and been issued a five-star rating.

Gabriela Borta started the business in October this year, running the takeaway from her home in Bury and the premises was seen by inspectors on December 20.

She said: “I have been waiting a long time for this.

“I work hard, and I keep everything so clean, but it has been a bit of a struggle getting someone out here to do the inspection.

“I have been told that there is still a bit of a backlog because of Covid so I hadn’t been listed on the Food Standards Agency’s website yet, but I’m happy to say that I am now with five stars”.

Dragon Sushi received a rating of "good" in its hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

Following the official food hygiene rating, Gabriela hopes to take her business onto the likes of Uber Eats to reach even more customers.

The venue is co-owned by father and son duo Bill and Will Gallie, as well as long-serving member of staff Jack Worsick, and was nominated at this year’s This is Manchester Awards.

Reports show the pub’s hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety have all received a rating of "good".

Meanwhile, pub The Major, situated on Bolton Street, has also received a top rating of five.

A report shows the venue has been rated as "very good" for its hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

Bury Times: Shoulder of Mutton

The Shoulder Of Mutton in Holcombe Village has been given five stars as well.

The pub reopened under new owners, Andy Hitchen, from Ramsbottom, and Craig Pinion, from Radcliffe, in June this year.

The experienced pair added the site to the list of pubs they already own, including The Duke of William in Ainsworth, The Victoria Hotel in Radcliffe and the Cheetham Arms in Bolton.

The venue’s hygienic food handling has been rated as "very good", cleanliness and condition of facilities and building has been rated "good" and management of food safety has received a "good" rating.

The food hygiene ratings work on a scale from zero to five and will be displayed at the premises and online so customers can make informed choices about where to buy and eat food.

A rating of five means that hygiene standards are very good, four means hygiene standards are good and three means hygiene standards are generally satisfactory.

A rating of two shows that some improvement is necessary, one means that major improvement is necessary and zero means urgent improvement is required.
