A vet practice has helped give pets in need a happier Christmas after an overwhelming response to its festive appeal.
Veterinary nurse, Charley-Jayne Bather, organised a successful appeal at Armac Veterinary Group for pet food, treats, toys, towels and blankets.
After being inundated with donations for Bury, Bolton and Lancashire-based animal shelters have received the extra items to help them care for lost, stray and abandoned pets.
Charley-Jayne, who adopted a rescue dog from the RSPCA in September, said: “I’m passionate about supporting animal shelters and it hit me harder this year - I wanted to be able to provide for other dogs still waiting to be rehomed.
“With more people involved, we have achieved so much as a team as well as a community with our amazing clients and the general public.
“Times are hard for many people and I truly didn’t expect the response we received. The volume of donations was overwhelming and so appreciated.”
Armac Vets invited people to drop off items at their main practice at The Rock in Bury or its branch in Bolton during the build-up to the festive season.
Donations have since been given to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, Destitute Animal Shelter in Bolton, Pets in Need and Kitty Rescue Bury.
There are now plans to make the festive collection an annual event.
Charley-Jayne added: “Each year we are hoping to support different local shelters so the donations can be shared fairly.
“It is a way for us to say thank you for their continued hard work and dedication in helping animals that need forever homes who have been abandoned, strayed too far or surrendered for a multitude of different reasons.
“The shelters chosen this year are absolutely fantastic and we work closely with them in providing emergency care where needed.
“These shelters have also taken stray animals from us out of the goodness of their heart, to try and find homes for them.”
