Around £170,000 worth of cannabis has been taken off the streets in Heywood.
On Friday, December 8, police discovered and seized £170,000 worth of the class B drug from a property on Bethel Street.
Officers say they were able to disrupt a ‘sophisticated operation’ and forensic analysis is underway to help determine the offenders.
Local PCSOs have been working to develop intelligence concerning drugs and weapons because the “consequences of these illegal trades are devastating”.
Heywood Neighbourhood Sergeant, Matthew Honey, said: “You may think it is only a bit of weed or this is ‘Selective Policing’ as one eloquent author wrote on Heywood Town.
“However this is important work, It WILL continue and we will keep listening to local residents’ concerns.
“These trades cause misery, they enable people to remain trapped in modern slavery, it puts young people at risk of criminal exploitation, it causes increased violence with weapons within our communities, and ultimately puts people’s lives at risk.”
Last week, two men from the Heywood area were arrested for theft after a local business had £500 worth of Christmas trees stolen.
Sgt Matt said: “Last week two of our Special Constables witnessed two males wandering down the town centre with these Christmas Trees.
“When questioned about this, we were told they were found by the roadside and the males were taking them back home to spread some festive cheer.
“In good old fashioned scrooge style the trees were seized.
“It was very late at night so after a couple of stop searches we got their details and promised we would be back should we find a victim.
“We did find a victim, a local business that had £500 worth of Christmas trees stolen
“They instantly went on our naughty list and a few days later two males from the Heywood area were arrested for theft.
“A court date in January is their present from us."
