A weekly mums 'n' tots playgroup in Prestwich has been paid an official visit from the High Sheriff, personally appointed this year by King Charles.

Heathlands Village residents as well as mothers and children attending one of The Fed’s "Fedlings" groups were delighted by the surprise of the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Mary-Liz Walker JP DL.

The High Sheriff was following up on a previous visit to Heathlands when she joined Jewish and wider communal figures for an interfaith Succos meal.

The charity’s marketing and communications manager, Joyce Khan, said: “Fedlings is an off shoot of The Fed’s weekly mums ‘n’ tots playgroup which we hold in our children’s centre in Eventhall house which is part of Heathlands Village.

“It’s a perfect example of the many intergenerational activities we arrange for residents – as contact with children and young people is incredibly important to their wellbeing.

“The group also demonstrates the range of people who access Fed services – in terms of age and religious and cultural background.

“It’s run by Shoshi Black, who is a Fed volunteer who used to work within our activity team.

“Despite leaving to work for another charity she finds the time to keep running this group out of the goodness of her heart because she appreciates from first hand experience how much it does to keep our residents in good spirits! Bless her!”
