A kitten found ‘hanging on to life by a thread' after being poisoned has made a miracle recovery.
Princess, who is just 11 weeks old, has been saved by Kitty Rescue Bury after it is thought a household flea spray, which is poisonous to some animals, was used on her.
Chantelle Farrow, a volunteer at Kitty Rescue Bury, said that due to outstanding vet bills, they were not taking on new cases, but could not turn Princess and her mum away.
She said: “Princess came from the same home as another cat we have previously rescued.
“I received a call asking for help and when I arrived, she was lifeless, barely breathing and just clinging on to life by a thread, I thought she had passed away until she took a tiny breath.
“We don’t usually take surrendered animals, but this baby needed help and she was signed over to us, as well as her mum, who was matted, covered in poo and looked completely drained.”
Princess was rushed to the closest vets, Pet Medics in Worsley, where she was weighed in 600 grams; half the weight she should have been for her age and breed.
Chantelle added: “It was heartbreaking, when the vet came out, I had prepared myself for the worst.
“Instead, they told me after giving her a bath, IV fluids, glucose, and a fatty lipid used to eat up the poison, she had started to come back around.”
Later that night, Princess was discharged.
Her mum was also seen by vets who agreed she needed a check up but was not an urgent case.
Princess is now being fostered by Chantelle as she recovers and ‘won’t leave her alone’.
She said: “I can’t put her down, she loves the attention, and she is doing well, I cant believe how quickly she came back from this - it is a miracle.
“It's still early days but things are looking brighter now and hopefully she continues to improve.”
The vet bill for the kitten came to £1454.31, something Chantelle said seems like a lot but is worth it to save the little one’s life.
The mum is booked in for a check up at a local vets this week.
Kitty Rescue are now asking for further donations to help with their outstanding vet bills which total over £11,000.
Information on how to donate can be found via their Facebook Page or the gofundme link here.
A spokesperson from the charity said: “All cats deserve a chance at life.
“If you can help towards her care please donate what you can afford £1 makes a big difference. If you can't donate please share its so appreciated.
“Your support helps save lives. We have eleven thousand pounds of outstanding in vet bills so we appreciate any support.”
