Traffic was backed up to Ramsbottom while four people were trying to move the lorry.
One person who witnessed the issue said the lorry tried turning left out of Strongstry before it got stuck and many people were waiting in queueing traffic while waiting for the lorry to be removed.
It is thought the lorry managed to reverse out and drive the opposite way into Ramsbottom.
