A Bury card and party wholesalers will be closing after almost 30 years of trading.

The owners of the Card and Party Store, based on Manchester Road, have made the "difficult decision" to close the business after 27 years of service in the town.

The news was announced via the store's Facebook page this afternoon, Tuesday, and there will be a 60 per cent off everything sale starting from 10am tomorrow morning, Wednesday.

Bosses say the decision came after a "stressful and upsetting time" and customers have shared their "heartbreak" upon hearing the news.

A spokesperson from the wholesale store said: “Unfortunately after 27 years of being in business we are sadly closing down.

“It has been a very stressful and upsetting time for us all here at Card And Party Store and it has been a difficult decision to make.

“We just wanted to say that we are so grateful to all our lovely customers who we got to know over the years and who kept us going for so long, we cannot thank you enough.

“We would also like to say a huge thank you to our amazing staff who have been with us for so many years and who were part of our CAPS family.

“Thank you again to everyone for your support and understanding. We wish you all the best for the future.

“Our closing down sale starts tomorrow (60 per cent off everything!), doors open at 10am - hopefully see you there!”

The announcement has been met with upset and sympathy from customers and other businesses who say they are "gutted".

One business said: “This is heartbreaking, my heart goes out to you all, such a massive loss, I loved my visits to CAPS.

“Such a lovely bunch, good luck in whatever you do, lots of good health and heaps of happiness, all the very best.”

“You have been there for me personally since I first opened my business.

“All the best for the future. Look after yourselves, and good luck for the future”.

And: “The end of an era, but just look at the lovely comments.

“CAPS was so supportive of new businesses and local charities -and the staff always went the extra mile to provide the very best service.

“Yes, you will be missed -but we wish you all our love (and lots of new adventures)”.

The sale will last until Friday, September 22, and includes Christmas stock, cards, gift bags and other novelties.
