Neighbours have expressed their shock after the death of a woman which has led to a murder investigation.

Police were called to an address on Pear Avenue in Bury on Saturday at around 9.35pm where a 55-year-old woman was found unconscious and taken to hospital.

She died yesterday, Monday, police said.

Last night, Greater Manchester Police said a 31-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in custody for questioning.

Flowers have been left outside the property and crime scene investigation and forensics officers have been in attendance this morning, Tuesday, where a police cordon is in place.

One resident said: “We didn’t hear anything, we just noticed an ambulance and police car on Saturday.

“It’s so scary for something like this to happen down here.”

Another resident added: “We just knew her to see, we’d see her walk down the street that’s all, she didn’t really go round to anyone’s house.

“She kept herself to herself more often or not.”

GMP is appealing for anyone who may have dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis said: “A murder investigation is now underway of the sad death of a lady in her home.

“We have arrested two people, but I would like to appeal to anyone who has any information that may assist with our enquiries.

“In particular, any local residents who may have seen anything suspicious at this time or who may have any dashcam/CCTV or doorbell footage from the time of the incident.

“There are no wider concerns to the public and believe this was a targeted attack.”
