A specialist police team is being drafted into Radcliffe after a successful operation which led to the arrest of suspected to prominent members of an organised crime group elsewhere in the borough.
Officers from Operation Revoke will be working alongside neighbourhood officers in Bury South to tackle 'tackle crime, harm and anti-social behaviour' on the streets.
The operation previously took place in the Moorside ward and saw dozens of arrests as well as thousands of pounds worth of cash and Class A and B drugs seized.
Bury South neighbourhood Police Inspector, Gareth Edwards, said: “I have successfully bid for and received support from the staff of Operation Revoke to come to Radcliffe to work alongside the neighbourhood officers here in Bury South.
“Operation Revoke has had great success around Moorside dealing with organised crime and drugs.
“In its first month the operation, it saw 24 people arrested, a street value of £135,000 in Class A and Class B drugs taken off the streets, as well as approximately £70,000 in cash seized.
“To date over 60 people and £150,000 in illicit cash has been taken off the streets of Bury.”
He added that on day one of the newly formed outfit, officers arrested two suspected prominent organised crime gang members.
It is reported that they possessed £52,000 in cash and a large amount of cannabis.
Insp Edwards said: “The officers who worked under Operation Revoke will be heading to Radcliffe to continue the work tackling crime, harm and anti-social behaviour on our streets."
Last month, the operation led to a man being charged with intent to supply Class-A drugs.
At the time, Sergeant James Donnelly of the Operation Revoke Team in Bury, said: "Operation Revoke is cracking down on crime across Bury, through robust and proactive policing. Among the work we do is carry out disruption activities, which is demonstrated in this case.
"I hope this quick arrest and charge shows the seriousness with which we treat reports of crime within the community.”
