A man has been taken to hospital after reports of a fight outside a bar in Bury. 

Greater Manchester Police were called to Bolton Street early this morning and a cordon remained in place for several hours while officers investigated the scene.

A man was taken to hospital, however, the force said his injuries are not thought to be life-changing or threatening at this time.

The incident is believed to be isolated and patrols in the area have been stepped up.

Chief Inspector Sam Jackson of the Bury district said: “I understand an incident of this nature may spark concern for those who regularly enjoy Bury town centre’s bars and pubs.

“I want to provide reassurance that we believe this incident to be isolated, and we have stepped up our patrols of the area.

“Our local teams already have dedicated patrol plans in place for the centre to deter and provide quick responses to any incidents that may arise. Anyone with concerns should also speak to officers, who are happy to provide support.

“Anyone with information on this incident should contact police on 101 quoting log 750 of 10/09/23.”

A section of Bolton Steet was cordoned off until around 10.30am this morning with police and crime scene investigators at the the scene.

Within the cordon was a baseball cap and two other objects, one of which appeared to be a vape. 

An investigation is underway to determine those responsible and the cordon has now been lifted.

A witness who had been on a night out in the town said that at around 4am this morning, they saw a group of people run into the road from the direction of a nearby takeaway. 

They described the scene as "like a brawl".
