Young Bury carers have boosted their creativity and wellbeing after completing a three-day summer programme.
Carers aged between seven and 10 enjoyed a Bury holiday club, for those who often miss out on opportunities to be creative, thanks to leading charity Create, artist Paul Pickford, and sponsorship from Jacksons of Yorkshire.
Aiming to enhance the wellbeing and self-esteem of the carers, with the help of Salford-based artist Paul, youngsters took up model making, with participants designing characters, sets, and writing stories about their creations.
Nicky Goulder, CEO of Create, said: “It’s been a joy to work with Paul and our group of young carers in Bury.
“It’s been inspiring to see them grow in confidence, learn new skills, build relationships and – above all, have fun - during their time at the project.
“They’ve especially loved the model making and we hope they’ll cherish their creations for many years to come!”
Create is a national charity that aims to bring the “power of creativity” to children and adults facing challenges in their lives.
Each project is delivered by professional Create artists, helping to connect, empower, inspire and upskill people who can often miss out on opportunities to be creative, enhancing their wellbeing and self-esteem.
Create’s project in Bury was facilitated in collaboration with Bury Young Carers and the sponsorship programme is part of Feeding Creativity, Jacksons of Yorkshire’s pledge to support all things creative.
