The organisers of an annual music festival at Burrs Country Park have announced its last minute headline act.

Organisers of Head for Hills, part of Burrs Live 2023, confirmed that rock band The Slow Readers Club will perform in place of The Proclaimers who were forced to pull out of the festival.

Bury Times:

In an announcement, organisers The Met praised the band, who played at the festival in 2018, as ‘one of the greatest self-made success stories in recent British rock history'.

Previous headliners The Proclaimers dropped out of the festival after singer Charlie Reid suffered voice loss linked to a perforated ear drum and are unable to perform on medical advice.

This year, Burrs Live organisers have partnered with Bury Hospice to put on Proms in the Park with The Untold Orchestra on Sunday, September 3.

The orchestra will perform a variety of popular song from films, musicals and the charts with all proceeds going to fund the vital work undertaken by the hospice.

The Met’s artistic director David Agnew said: “We are thrilled to be back with Burrs Live, we started it up in 2021 just coming out of the pandemic and we’ve seen brilliant response.

With support from Arts Council England, the council and business sponsorship, there are plans for the festival to grow over the next three years.

Among the acts performing at this year’s festival are 2-tone ska legends The Selecter, indie-rock quartet Dutch Uncles and Leigh-based chart toppers the Lottery Winners.
