A big name music act has cancelled their appearance at a Bury festival due to “medical advice".

Scottish duo The Proclaimers were set to perform at Head to the Hills festival at Burrs Country Park in September but have announced they will no longer be taking to the stage.

The band, made up of twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid, have announced they can no longer perform at the event after Charlie suffered voice loss link to a perforated ear drum.

The Proclaimers have released 11 studio albums since forming in 1983 and are best known for the 1988 hit single, I’m Gonna be (500 Miles).

A statement published by organisers, The Met said: “We regret to inform you that due to medical advice, The Proclaimers will no longer be performing on Friday, September 1 at Head for The Hills at Burrs Country Park.

"Below is a statement from the band: 'Sadly with Charlie having just suffered voice loss linked to having a perforated ear drum, it has been further diagnosed that he cannot perform over the next few weeks and accordingly must pull out of the performance at Head for the Hills'.

"Charlie adds 'I’m very sorry that I can’t play these shows and thank everyone for all the fantastic support over this tour'.

"We’re working very hard to find a suitable replacement and will communicate this over the coming days.”

Head for the Hills, which takes place on September 1 and 2, promises two full days of great music across two stages, artisan food and craft beer, arts areas, strolling theatre, circus skills workshops and lots of family fun.

It will also feature performances from indie rock band Dutch Uncles, two-tone pioneers The Selector and Leigh-based chart toppers Lottery Winners.
