The state of a road in Ramsbottom has been criticised by residents after resurfacing works.

The works on Nuttall Lane have been carried out as part of a £250,000 investment from the council.

But residents are said to be "up in arms" over the road's appearance, which has been described as "tatty" with potholes appearing and the surface thought to be uneven. 

However, the council has reassured neighbours that the problem is being resolved.

A council spokesperson said: “One side of Nuttall Lane is being resurfaced as the road had failed structurally, and the other side has been micro asphalted.

“Patching works in preparation for the micro asphalt were carried out in April.

“With resurfacing, the ironwork is raised before the new surface course is laid.

“Micro asphalt is laid on top of the existing road surface and then then the ironwork is raised after the new surface has had time to embed and reach its finished level.

“Due to the nature of the material, the initial appearance of micro asphalt can seem untidy and unfinished.

“As the treatment receives embedment from passing vehicles, mechanical sweeping to remove any excess chippings and absorption/evaporation of the various chemicals within the mixture, the appearance continues to improve over a period of weeks, reaching its finished state after six months or so.”
