Pupils and staff at a Bury primary school will take part in a ‘Proclaimers Challenge’ today, attempting to run 500 miles as a way of giving back to the community.

Old Hall Primary School, on Springside View, will be raising money for Brandlesholme Community Centre and Foodbank today, July 14, as pupils, staff and members of the community all contribute towards a 500-mile total.

Assistant Headteacher, Matthew Sharman, said: “The Community Centre is such a valuable resource both socially and economically for the local residents of Old Hall Primary School.

“As a school, we really wanted to give back to the community and raise some funds for them and came up with the idea of having a Proclaimers Challenge.”

As a school, 450 miles is going to be run and the school is counting on other members of the community to help them achieve the last 50 miles between 3.45pm to 4.45pm today.

The school fundraises for the Community Centre & Foodbank each year as a way of teaching children the importance of helping people, who may be less fortunate.

Over £1,400 has already been raised by the school, which is still accepting donations via their Just Giving site, which can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/oldhallprimaryschool-1688127850677?newPage=true
