A high-ranking Greater Manchester Police officer has been suspended after a misconduct allegation.
A Greater Manchester Police Superintendent has been suspended from duty following an internal allegation of misconduct.
It has been announced today, July 11, that the officer has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which oversees the police complaints system in England and Wales.
Following the referral, the IOPC will be carrying out an initial assessment to determine whether an independent investigation is required.
Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods, QPM: “Following an internal allegation of misconduct, a Superintendent has been suspended from duty and referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) - who are carrying out an initial assessment to determine whether an independent investigation is required."
The IOPC investigate police complaints and serious matters, including deaths following police contact.
They set the standards by which the police should handle complaints and are independent, making decisions entirely independently of the police and government.
