Bury-born goalkeeper Jack Walton has joined Scottish Championship side Dundee United on loan from Luton.

Walton made the move to Kenilworth Road in the January window but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Hatters, who secured promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The 25-year-old had a spell in Bolton's Academy ranks as a youngster before joining Barnsley in 2013, playing 62 times for the Yorkshire outfit.

He now heads north of the border as the Tangerines aim to bounce back from last season’s relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

"Jack is a very good young 'keeper who commands his area and will put demands on the defenders in front of him by being vocal and a good organiser,” manager Jim Goodwin told the club website.

"Having played a number of games in the Championship, he has also been part of two promotion-winning teams already in his career and we are very grateful to Luton for their help in getting the loan deal over the line.”

Walton got his first taste of regular men’s football during a loan spell at Stalybridge Celtic during the 2017/18 campaign.

The shot stopper broke into the first-team picture at Barnsley in 2020, helping the Tykes avoid relegation to League One.

He made 24 appearances the following season as the club reached the play-offs under Valerien Ismael.
