A long-time Bury Football Club fan has been welcomed back to his seat at Gigg Lane for the first time in four years.
Terrance Martin, who lives in Bolton, had been watching Bury FC for 74 years before the club were expelled from the football league in 2019 after financial problems.
His dedication to seeing his club was exemplified by him taking three buses to travel from his home to the stadium.
Ahead of the club's first at home match in four years against Bradford City this weekend, the 84-year-old was welcomed back to the ground on Monday morning for an emotional return.
He said: “I honestly thought I’d never see this day again."
Interim board member at the club, Alistair Rowe, said that hearing Terrance’s story had warmed the hearts of football fans up and down the country.
He said: “We were delighted to welcome Terrance to Gigg Lane.
“It has been the home of football for Bury fans for more than 100 years and has allowed so many generations of Shakers to enjoy football and make special memories.
“Hearing Terrance’s story not only inspired us to keep working hard for our beloved club, but it warmed the hearts of football fans up and down the country.”
