A live music venue in Bury will host a special gig as part of a national tour supporting grassroots performances spaces.

The Met on Market Street in the town centre is one of 130 venues taking part in The National Lottery and Music Venue Trust’s United by Music Tour.

The tour will see a series of one-off shows taking place at venues across the country in support of grassroots venues.

As part of the tour, indie-rock five-piece Amber Run will play an intimate show at The Met tomorrow, Friday, June 30.

This is the third year The National Lottery has partnered with Music Venue Trust, underwriting the full touring and production costs of artists participating, as part of their ongoing commitment to the grassroots music sector and takes the total money committed to £5.5m.

The band said: “We grew up playing venues like these when we lived in High Wycombe. We would spend all of our time going to watch bands at The Nags Head.

“That venue has gone now, but these ones have not.

"Grassroots venues like the ones on this tour are ESSENTIAL to the UK music scene.

“Without artists being able to cut their teeth in smaller venues, we wouldn’t have any of the incredible artists that we all worship today.

“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be going out on this tour and we hope you’ll join us by supporting your local venue, or by joining us at one of these shows.”

The tour will also showcase other small venues in the North West, including the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge and Blitz in Preston.

National tours will feature more than 20 artists including Ed Harcourt, 86TVs, Amber Run, Hamish Hawk, Lily Moore, Newton Faulkner, Noah and The Loners, Witch Fever and more, with all tickets available on a two-for-one basis to National Lottery players as a thank you for their support.

Mark Dayvd, CEO of Music Venue Trust said, “The partnership between The National Lottery and Music Venue Trust is delivering desperately needed support to Grassroots Music Venues right across the country in a very difficult and challenging year.

"By investing directly into artists and venues, creating hundreds of new shows and one off events, the United by Music Tour is making sure that everyone can continue to access the very best live music in their local community.”
