A running group which provides a "safe space" for hundreds of women to get active has been recognised for the difference it makes in the community.
Prestwich Plodders were announced as the winners of the Rick Bennett Community Recognition Award at Heaton parkrun, an honour named after the event's founder which celebrates those who have made a special contribution.
The group was recognised for providing a “safe space” for women, with many of them at Heaton parkrun on Saturday as the event reached its 14th anniversary.
Duncan Shuttleworth, co-event director, said: "The Rick Bennett Community Recognition Award recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to the Heaton parkrun community.
“The Prestwich Plodders have been great supporters of parkrun through their generous volunteering and their introduction of so many new people to our community.
“The infectious enthusiasm and positivity they bring to Saturday mornings is a joy and we are delighted to honour them with this award."

Prestwich Plodders was set up in 2017 and now has more than 1,500 members.
It is open to women of all ages and abilities who wish to get active with other women in a fun, relaxed setting.
Qualified run leaders offer 5km and 7km runs, as well as a run/walk session and a walk, every Wednesday evening, starting at Heaton Park in the summer and St Mary's Park in the winter.
The group focuses on helping to get women moving, at whatever pace they choose, and each group has a back-marker so no-one is left behind.
It is free for everyone to attend and has benefited from funding from Bury Council.

Clare Reynolds, one of the group’s run leaders, said: "We see the difference that Prestwich Plodders makes every week to so many women and it was a real surprise to receive the Rick Bennett Community Recognition Award.
“All of our run leaders were overwhelmed to be recognised with this award. We offer our time voluntarily, so to be noticed is just amazing.”
