A new Thai restaurant will be coming to Bury this month after a Brandlesholme woman has been given the opportunity to finally do her “own thing”.
Phirat Marsh, 49, who goes mainly by her nickname Latti, will be sharing her love of cooking and Thai food with Bury as she opens her restaurant ‘Thai Smile’.
Having previously worked as a chef at Pum Thai, where Martini’s on The Rock currently stands, Latti said she is excited to now oversee her very own place with the help of a friend, Serwan Mahmoodzada, age 37.
She said: “I have wanted to do something like this for a long time and just before the start of lockdown, I was getting tempted to just go for it.
“But, I took a step back, waited a bit longer, and then recently started looking for somewhere to set up my very own place.”

Having lived in Bury for nearly 17 years, Latti jumped at the chance of opening her business in the town centre and has had a positive response from passers-by.
She said: “We still have to decorate and sort some more bits inside, but we have had so many people pop their heads in to ask us what is happing and when we will open, it has been amazing!
“I can’t wait to open, meet and cook for everyone, hopefully in around three weeks’ time.”

Latti will be opening the business with her friend of around 10 years, Serwan, after the pair decided the time was finally right to begin building their business.
Thai Smile can be found where the Italian restaurant, Hideaway, was situated at 93 The Rock, before it closed earlier this year.

Latti, who also worked as a Lifeguard at The Village Gym, on Rochdale Rd for around eight years, said she can’t wait to start meeting customers and plans to host a taster opening event in the upcoming weeks.
