A main road was closed in Bury town centre this afternoon, Tuesday, after police were alerted to a "suspicious item".
Police cordoned off a large area around the town hall and closed Knowsley Street from the Q-Park site to Angouleme Way.
The fire service and North West Ambulance Service were all present.
But the item was assessed and "confirmed to be non-suspicious".
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were earlier today (Tuesday) alerted to reports of a suspicious item in Knowsley Street, Bury.
"We can confirm that the item was assessed and confirmed as non-suspicious.
"As a standard precaution, a cordon was put in place and some nearby roads were closed.
"Local officers would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation."
