A teenage boy was taken to hospital after being rescued from the water at Burrs Country Park.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the popular park close to the River Irwell just before 6pm today, Sunday, following reports that a person had fallen into the water.

One fire engine from Ramsbottom fire station and a Technical response Unit from Ashton arrived at the scene and a 14-year-old boy was rescued from the water.

The boy was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by North West ambulance service.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 6pm this evening (Sunday 4th June), one fire engine from Ramsbottom fire station along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton were called to reports of a person falling in the water at Burrs Country Park.

“Crews arrived quickly at scene. Firefighter wearing dry suits used a rescue sled and stretcher to rescue a 14-year-old boy from the water. Firefighters treated the boy at the scene before he was taken to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and a half. ”

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
