A Bury care home worker is gearing up for a 20-mile walk to raise money to take care home residents on a dream outing.

Gary Ainsworth, 41, has worked as a wellbeing co-ordinator at Burrswood Care home in Bury since last August and did a charity walk last year for the care home too.

He is planning on walking from the care home in Bury to Hebden Bridge to raise £250 to take the care home residents on a summer outing.

He said: “I decided to do it because summer is coming up and the weather is getting better, I thought it would be nice to be able to have the money to hire a minibus to take everybody out to a desired location.

“It’s just to get them out of the care home and to enjoy the sun.”

Gary also did a similar walk last year from Bury to Rivington Farm which raised £180.

He said: “I raised £180 which all went on electronic equipment.

“I bought us a new karaoke machine, four Amazon Alexa’s and two led light projectors that project onto the ceiling.

“Everyone loved it so this year I want to walk even further.

“Last year the walk was 14 miles and this years is 20 miles.”

He’s hoping to complete the walk by the end of June, and he will be joined by his sister Cheryl and her husband Andrew Haslam.

Gary added: “The goal is to raise £250 but if I can get more, any money left over will be spent on an entertainer for those residents who can’t physically get onto a coach so they can have some entertainment inside the home, so no one is left out.”

He’s also doing it for the carers who work long 12-hour shifts so they can also have a fun day out too.
