A popular Prestwich hotel could be turned into houses after its landlord revealed he plans to sell the property.
The Fairways Lodge Hotel, off Bury New Road, was put on the market earlier this month with an asking price of more than £3m.
The hotel stands on a 1.5-acre site near to the town’s golf course and boasts 40 bedrooms, conference and banqueting facilities, a restaurant, leisure centre and bar.
The hotel’s landlord, Nabeel Mussurat, says the property has piqued the interest of buyers looking to develop the land in tandem with wider regeneration efforts in the town.

While a potential buyer would have the opportunity to keep the property running as a hotel, he has revealed that it is likely that the site will be turned into housing.
Nabeel said: “I’m selling as I’ve had the property for a long time, over 20 years.
“The local area has been regenerated over time and lots of people interested in coming here approached me saying they want to put a block of flats there.”
Estate agent WT Gunson said two draft plans for housing on the site have already been drawn up which could see around 30 houses or a mixture of houses and apartments developed on the site. The site could also be used for a care home facilities for older people.

Nabeel confirmed that a potential buyer could still choose to keep the site operating as a hotel.
He continued: “If it remains as a hotel they could keep the current tenants or pay them to leave.”
The site has existed as a hotel for around 20 years and has had two different tenants during that time.
It was formerly known as The Village Hotel and Leisure Club and run by De Vere Hotel Group until it was put up for sale in 2004 because it "no longer fitted the brand profile."
