A kitchen fire broke out yesterday evening, Thursday, with crews called out to tackle the blaze.
Crews from Whitefield Fire Station arrived on the scene at Willow Street, Bury, at around 9pm.
There they found that a fire had started in a kitchen in one of the houses, which the firefighters were able to quickly extinguish.
Watch manager Steve Coote said: “There was a little damage to the kitchen but the residents had noticed it quickly and were able to inform us and allow us to deal with it quickly as well.”
He confirmed that there were no serious injuries, other than people being checked for smoke inhalation, and said that firefighters remained on the scene until around 10.30pm.
Mr Coote added: “The message we really want to get across is that can people make sure they have working smoke alarms in their homes.
“In this case I’m not suggesting they didn’t, but just in general it really is important that people make sure they do.”
He advised that eligible people can arrange for fire home safety assessment checks which may include fitting free smoke alarms on Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service’s website.
In the event of an emergency, always call 999 as soon as possible.
