A main road in Bury has been closed after a two-car crash this evening, Friday.

Ainsworth Road has been shut following the collision with a photograph showing two cars, a blue Vauxhall Astra and a black Volkswagen Golf, on the road.

The Vauxhall could be seen to be missing a wheel, with damage to its rear wing and driver’s door.

The crash appeared to have happened at Ainsworth Road's junction with Greenhill Road.

A spokesperson from bus company Go North West said: "Due to a road closure on Ainsworth Road, the service will divert via Bury and Bolton Road in both directions, omitting Watling Street and Ainsworth Road."

The circumstances of the crash are not yet known but one resident said: "This is the second serious accident within a few days on Ainsworth Road.

"We are trying to get some traffic calming but the council doesn’t appear to be assisting.

"It won’t be long before someone loses their life on this road."

This comes after a previous crash on the road at the end of April.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with "serious leg injuries" following the incident.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for more information about this incident.
