Bury Cancer Support Centre has been given a boost to move forward its plans to create a new facility to help its service users.

The charity has been awarded £3,000 from housing association Six Town Housing’s Transformation Fund to develop a wellbeing and relaxation room.

It would be used to deliver relaxation classes, mindfulness, meditation and would be available to all users, predominantly cancer patients but also carers and bereaved families.

The centre on Bury and Bolton Road celebrated its 20-year anniversary on Saturday, April 1 with the charity is aiming to try and raise £20,000 to celebrate the landmark.

Former Manchester United and England star turned football pundit Gary Neville was its special guest for the anniversary event.

Gary and his family have supported the centre for many years citing that the charity has been “really important” to them.

The charity provides a range of services for people living with cancer and is a drop-in centre for patients and family and friends affected by the disease.

The centre has set up a JustGiving page which has already raised almost £18,500 of its £20,000 target.
