Firefighters tackled a fire at a chicken coop in Edenfield today, Wednesday.
Crews battled the blaze, which destroyed a chicken coop at a property with the name of the road not disclosed by the fire service.
Firefighters from Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall fire stations were called to a blaze at the property at 11am and were there for two hours.
Watch manager Greg McNally of Ramsbottom Fire Station said: “We were called to a chicken coop fire in Edenfield.
“Because of the actions of the homeowner, calling earlier like they did, it prevented the fire spreading to the neighbours’ properties.
“The person had been cleaning out their chicken coop and was trying to clear out mites with an open torch when it caught fire.
“The chickens were out while the coops were being cleaned, so no chickens were hurt. The coop was destroyed.”
Mr McNally added: “Anyone using an open torch should make sure to take precautions and be aware if they’re using anything like a live torch to take extra precautions.”
“We ask people to take extra precautions in the garden when burning anything.”
