Residents are being asked to have their say on transport plans in Bury for the next 20 years.
The council has launched a public consultation on its Local Transport Strategy to explore a plan for investment in the borough for the following two decades.
Covering all modes of travel across the borough, it will also align with GM2024, The Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy- securing investment for transport in Bury.
Council leader, Cllr Eamonn O’Brien, said: “We need our transport network to unlock new sites for development, to promote health and wellbeing through active travel and to help meet our commitment to having fossil-fuel free travel by 2038.”
A redeveloped Metrolink interchange in Bury town centre alongside a new stop and a proposed travel hub at Elton Reservoir are two major projects expected to improve transport links from the town.
By taking public control of buses, Greater Manchester also aims to achieve more high frequency bus routes, more reliable services and cheaper fares.
The Atom Valley Mayoral Development Zone, which includes the Northern Gateway project and straddles Bury and Rochdale near the M66 and M62, is included in long term plans.
With the issue of congestion set to be tackled by reducing the number of journeys being made by cars, safety on the highway network will also improve, with new roads and junction improvements being proposed.
Cllr O’Brien added: “This strategy sets out a range of exciting and complementary measures to help deliver a modern transport network that everyone benefits from.
"While we have secured funding to start the implementation of the proposals, this cannot be achieved overnight.”
The strategy is also setting out to promote the use of active travel by creating a network of walking, wheeling and strategy routes, encouraging healthy and active lifestyles.
The council will also be holding some engagements at different venues across the borough towards the end of the consultation period, with dates to be announced in due course.
The consultation began on Friday, March 24 and runs to June 30 2023.
