The family of a popular Bury woman who served a Bury boxing club for five decades have paid tribute to her.

Susan Jelley, 78, died on Friday, February 24 at the Royal Oldham Hospital after battling blood cancer and suffering from relapsed refractory double-hit lymphoma.

She was best known for being the secretary of Bury Amateur Boxing Club, where her husband Mick trained the likes of fighters such as Amir Khan and Scott Quigg at the start of their careers.

Susan held the position for 50 years and took care of all the phone calls, lists, medical cards, paperwork, informing the Bury Times of all the boxing achievements, catering at all the boxing shows, recording and emails.

Susan also volunteered at Castle Knights disabled swimming group for more than 25 years when her friend with MS joined.

All the members of the group valued her love and kindness with her helping people with all types of disabilities to swim and float around the pool and said she will be sadly missed.

Susan's daughter Karen Robb added: “Susan enjoyed family holidays, listening to the radio, baking, looking after her grandchildren, walking the family dogs, horse riding and most of all looking after others.”

Susan lived in Bury all her life, residing in Elton after getting married to Mick.
