A woman was taken to hospital after a car crashed into a road sign on the M66 near Ramsbottom yesterday, Monday.

Emergency services were called to a crash between junctions one (Summerseat Interchange) and two (Heap Bridge Interchange) on the motorway at around 4pm after a silver Peugeot struck the sign.

Three fire engines attended to make the area safe and were there for around 15 minutes.

Two women were treated by paramedics and one of them was taken to hospital with a minor head injury.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Shortly after 4pm on Monday, March 6, firefighters were called out to a road traffic collision between junctions 1 and 2 on the M66.

“Three fire engines from Heywood, Bury and Ramsbottom quickly attended the scene where a silver Peugeot had collided with a road sign.

“Crews were in attendance for 15 minutes as they worked to help make the scene safe.

“Two female casualties were treated by North West Ambulance Service at the scene.”

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added: “A woman was taken to hospital with a minor head injury.”
