A large fire broke out at an industrial estate until in Radcliffe last night, Tuesday.

Five fire engines were sent to extinguish a blaze at an aluminium fabrication plant unit on Bradley Fold Trading Estate at around 9pm.

The crews used an aerial platform to extinguish the flames, spending three hours in total at the site.

No-one was on site at the time of the fire and an investigation is underway to find the cause.

There was no fire or smoke damage caused to neighbouring units but two units nearby were evacuated as a precaution.

No chemicals were in the plant unit either.

A police car and a police van were also called.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived, they tackled the fire from the front and an aerial platform was used to extinguish the fire.

“Crews were then placed overnight to handle the situation.

“It happened at around 9pm and we are not sure as to how it started yet, but there were no injuries.

"The fire started in one unit from front and we had to cover the rear as well.
"We were there for at least three hours with crews from Bolton, Bolton North, Farnworth, Bury and Whitefield."

The council said Bradley Fold Depot, which is based at the industrial estate, was not affected by the fire.

A council spokesperson said: "The location was Unit 4, Bradley Fold Trading Estate, Radcliffe, where emergency services attended.

"No fire or smoke damage to neighbouring units which remain operational however, two units nearby were evacuated as a precaution.

"Unit 4 was an aluminium fabrication plant and therefore, no chemicals or acetylene cylinders on site.

"One fire appliance and a police patrol to remained on site overnight as a precaution.

"Unit 4 was closed at the time of the fire and fire investigation have attended this morning, Wednesday.

"Bradley Fold Depot has not been affected and is operational."
