When you see the difference hospice care makes to our patients and their families, it is easy to understand what drives our community fundraisers.

Hospice ambassador Liam McCheyne, who stars as Dylan Wilson in Coronation Street, and his twin brother Connor are raising money for the Hospice by taking part in our firewalk on Thursday, February 23 at Woodbank Cricket Club.

UK Firewalk will deliver the experience and will help fundraisers in their walk across smouldering hot coals and train them before the event.

We are delighted that Liam and Connor have signed up for the challenge.

To have young ambassadors with their energy and passion on board is fantastic.

I am so proud of their dedication, support and fundraising efforts.

They have raised over £2,600 for the Hospice, which is amazing.

Liam said: “We have never done a firewalk before so we are excitedly stepping into the unknown.

"It's a huge passion of mine to help out in the local community and when the hospice reached out to me I thought it was a great opportunity and a true privilege to give back and hopefully make a positive impact.

"It is a real privilege to help the hospice knowing how vital their work is and we wanted to commit as much support as possible to help them raise their much-needed funds.

"With cash donations, money donated on our JustGiving page and gift aid, we have raised around £2,680.”

I will be joining Liam and Connor and taking part in the firewalk.

I am going to be stepping out of my comfort zone but I know that the money I raise will help patients and support their families.

I know some people can’t take part in the event itself but if they would like to sponsor me for as little as £2 on my JustGiving page http://www.justgiving.com/Helen-Lockwood4, or Liam and Connor at https://justgiving.com/fundraising/liam-mccheyne, I would be delighted.

If everyone donated just £2 it would make such a difference.

Any donations, big or small, will allow us to continue to care for local people living with life-limiting illnesses.

I am so grateful to everyone who has donated towards this challenge.

The cricket club will be open from 6pm to everyone who would like to come and support us.

There will be a barbecue from 6.30pm, with burgers and hot dogs being served throughout the evening.

All firewalkers will hot foot it across the coals from 7.45pm I would like to wish everyone taking part in the firewalk the best of luck and I hope to see as many of supporters there as possible.

Anyone who would like to fundraise for us should call the fundraising team on 0161 797 1748 or email fundraising@buryhospice.org.uk.
