An appeal has been launched after a "hardworking" electrician was hospitalised in Tenerife after being hit by a car while on holiday.
Peter Rowland-Rhodes, from Prestwich, has been raising money for one of his closest friends, Dean Ellis, after he was hit by a car in Tenerife on Friday, February 17.
Describing Dean, from Wales, as "like a brother", Peter said the news was shocking and he has been fundraising to help Dean’s mum afford accommodation and flights to Tenerife to see her son in the hospital.
Peter said: “He has three fractures in his spine that aren't to the bone which is lucky and multiple gashes and bruises, and a fair bit of swelling and injury to his head.
“It was horrible to find out, Dean is so hardworking and very rarely takes holidays so for this to have happened to him is really awful.”
After finding out Dean, who works across Greater Manchester including Bury, would have to remain in hospital for treatment, his mum, Karen Ellis, wanted to travel over to meet him.
She bought a one-way ticket to Tenerife with no accommodation, plans or savings to tie her over once she arrived.
Peter said: “She has been so worried, and it is expensive to stay there, especially when she doesn’t know how long she will be.
“I decided to set up a GoFundMe page for people to help us in funding Karen to stay and eat there whilst her son recovers.
“Since setting it up, we have raised over £3,000 which is incredible.
"She has now flown out and they are back together so the extra money will help them during the recovery in hospital and Peter in the time he has to stay off work.
"We are all so grateful for the donations."
Dean has now had a spinal brace fitted and said that having his mum there with him has helped him finally get some sleep and comfort.
