A Radcliffe care home previously rated as inadequate is no longer in special measures after making improvements to the care it provides.

The Withins on Bury Road is no longer ranked as inadequate - the lowest possible score - after an unannounced inspection by healthcare regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), found it had made improvements to its service.

The care home, which provides residential care and rehabilitation for people with mental health conditions, was rated as inadequate by the CQC following an inspection in July 2022.

In its latest report, the CQC gave The Withins, which was caring for 11 people at the time of the inspection in January, a new rating of requires improvement, one level better than inadequate.

The watchdog also confirmed that the care home was no longer in special measures or rated as inadequate in any of the areas in which it was assessed.

Inspectors found that safety and leadership at the care home had improved from inadequate to requires improvement.

It also found that "caring", evidence that the service treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect, had improved from requires improvement to good.

Its report, published last week, said: “Although we found leadership and the general oversight of the service had improved.

"Audits continued to not be completed consistently.

“A robust governance framework had not yet been established.

“Oversight of people's medicines had improved, and people received their medicines in a person-centred and unhurried manner.

“However, we found there was still areas some areas of improvement required.

“Since the last inspection, numerous changes were made to ensure people received safe care.

People's risk assessments and care plans were replaced, updated and made more individualised.”

The CQC will continue to work with the service provider, Next Chapter Health Care, to ensure that regulations are met.

New Chapter Health Care have been approached for comment about the latest inspection.
