A 85-year-old woman was pulled to the floor in a terrifying street mugging in Whitefield last week.

The woman was walking along Dalton Avenue from the direction of Thatch Leach Lane at around 4.25pm on Thursday, February 9.

A man then approached her and grabbed hold of her handbag and pulled her to the floor.

The man is described as a white man in his 40s, around 5"6 tall and was wearing a navy coat, woolly hat and backpack.

Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them.

On social media, a Bury South police spokesperson said: “We are currently investigating a robbery of an 85-year-old lady that occurred last Thursday, incident number- 2600-090223.

“At 4.25pm on Thursday, February 9, a lone female was walking along Dalton Avenue, Whitefield from the direction of Thatch Leach Lane when she has been approached by a lone male who has grabbed hold of her handbag and pulled her to the floor.

“The male is described as a white male, aged 40’s, 5ft 6 tall, wearing a navy coat, woolly hat and backpack (no further details).

“We are appealing for information from the public who may have witnessed anything relevant, if anyone has any CCTV/dashcam footage to come forward?
