One person is fighting for their life after a two vehicle crash on the M66 in Bury tonight, Monday.
Emergency services are in attendance on the motorway between junction 3 for the Pilsworth Interchange and junction 4 for Simister Island.
The section of road is expected to be sealed off for several hours.
Three people have been injured, including one who has been "critically" hurt.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "This evening on the M66 in Bury a serious road traffic collision between two cars has injured three people, one critically.
"Police, North West Ambulance Service, and firefighters from Blackley, Bury and Whitefield fire stations are in attendance on the motorway which is closed and is expected to be closed for several hours.
"Two people have been taken to hospital and a third person received treatment at the scene."
National Highways said the road is likely to remain closed until around 11pm.
